SLIA Qurbani Appeal 2026: Your Generosity Reached 325 Families in Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka Islamic Association (UK) is delighted to share the outcome of our 2026 Qurbani Appeal and to thank every member, family and supporter who entrusted us with this important act of worship.

This year, the generosity of the SLIA community exceeded all expectations. Together, we raised over £3,000, surpassing our original target and enabling us to support some of the most vulnerable Muslim families in Sri Lanka during the blessed days of Eid-ul-Adha.

For many of us in the UK, Eid is a time of family gatherings, celebration and abundance. Yet for countless families in Sri Lanka, particularly those living in areas affected by poverty and economic hardship, access to meat is a rare luxury. Through your Qurbani, those families were able to enjoy a nutritious meal and share in the joy of Eid alongside the wider Ummah.

Working with our trusted partners on the ground in Trincomalee, the appeal funded the sacrifice of 10 cows, providing approximately 650kg of meat which was distributed to 325 vulnerable families, reaching around 650 individuals in the communities of Vellankulam, Mailappanchenail and Kaaravettuvan in the Kinniya region.

What makes this appeal particularly meaningful is that it reflects one of SLIA’s core values: maintaining a connection between our community in the UK and our brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka. While Sri Lankan Muslims are often a forgotten minority within global charitable efforts, our members once again demonstrated that they have not been forgotten.

The meat was distributed on Eid day immediately following the slaughter, ensuring families could participate in the celebrations and enjoy the blessings of Eid alongside their neighbours and loved ones. Beyond the practical support, your generosity delivered dignity, happiness and a reminder that they remain part of a wider global community that cares for them.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to every individual and family who contributed, shared the appeal, encouraged others to participate, or volunteered their time to help make this initiative a success.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us the importance of caring for one another and strengthening the bonds of community. Through your support, that spirit was brought to life once again.

As SLIA continues to strengthen our community here in the UK, we remain committed to supporting meaningful initiatives in Sri Lanka that directly benefit those most in need. This year’s Qurbani Appeal is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when our community comes together with a shared purpose.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan to all our donors, volunteers and partners.

May Allah (SWT) accept your Qurbani, reward your generosity abundantly, and continue to make SLIA a source of benefit for communities both here in the UK and in Sri Lanka.
